FAMU Guest Talks: Daniel C Blight, The Image of Whiteness

11. 2. 2026

Daniel C. Blight is a sociologist, writer and artist based in London. He teaches in the School of Art & Media at the University of Brighton. His research and practice focus on photography, visual culture, and the social and political dimensions of racial whiteness.

In this lecture, Blight examines the photographic representation of racial whiteness and its entanglement with colonialist aesthetics. He discusses systemic whiteness as a social structure and worldview, and how it shapes processes of white seeing and white knowing.

His books include The Image of Whiteness (SPBH/MACK, 2019; 2nd ed. 2022) and the forthcoming Not the Light: The Image in the White Racial Frame (Bloomsbury Philosophy, 2026).
