Nikola Brabcová and Karin Šrubařová have long worked together as a visual artists' duo. Both enjoy experimenting, whether with new media or through analog methods. Their artistic practice features strong interdisciplinarity and a process of collaborative discovery within collectives. Alongside this, they refer to the authenticity of a place, not only as a “genius loci” but primarily as part of the artistic research they always create for a given area. Their latest long-term project, Erosion, which is part of the online exhibition Regeneration published on Artyčok.tv, explores soil as a living entity, its current state, and ecological renewal.
As part of SAW, they will present videos related to their research on human and non-human influences on shaping the Earth’s surface. The fragile soil layer is a meeting point for bio-chemical and physical processes essential for life on the planet; when these processes don’t function well, the entire system collapses. The videos reveal the story of transforming living and non-living matter, highlighting the paradox of technologies contrasted with landscape recordings.
