Jan Maštera is an artist and photographer. He graduated from the Department of Photography at FAMU where he is currently in charge of managing both technical equipment and thedepartment’s overall premises while leading technology-oriented teaching modules. As part of his original art work, he focuses on the medium of artists’ books, with emphasis on the manipulative nature of the medium and on the way it allows the forming of mythology. The group exhibitions he has taken part in include: Vizuální mytologie (Visual mythology) (Alternative Gallery, OGV, Jihlava, 2018), The Most Impossible of Renunciations (NYU Tisch, New York, 2016), Cities and Velocities (De Markten, Brussels, 2016), and Mezi dokumentem a monumentem (Between the Document and Monument) (Drda Gallery, 2015). Several of Jan Maštera’s artist’s books can be found, subversively placed, in the reading room of the National Library.
