Štěpánka Šimlová is a contemporary intermedia artist. She was the head of the Department of Photography at FAMU until 2019; currently she heads the university’s Intermedia Studio. Šimlová works with the photographic image and its digital manipulation, with moving images, and also on occasion with paintings and texts. The range of her work is also very broad: from manipulated landscapes across personal themes, gender topics to social and political themes. Štěpánka Šimlová graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. During her studies she received scholarships to study abroad in the Netherlands (Rijks Akademie von Beldendeen Kunsten, Amsterdam) and the United Kingdom (Trent University, Nottingham). Šimlová entered the scene in the 1990s as part of a distinguished group of woman artists of her generation. Since then, she has taken part in dozens of solo and group exhibitions both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
